Pure Desire Ministries began in the local church. Our founders, Dr. Ted and Diane Roberts, recognized the pervasiveness of sexual struggle in the church. The evasive answers of the past only gave men and women a message of “try harder,” which kept them isolated in their shame and struggle. Over the course of two decades, they developed a strategy that is biblically based, clinically informed, and highly successful in creating lasting change.

Our mission

To provide hope, freedom, and healing from compulsive sexual behavior and betrayal trauma through Jesus Christ.

The Pure Desire program addresses the evidence-based understanding that compulsive sexual behavior and the associated struggles are a family systems issue, not just an individual problem. For this reason, healing needs to happen for the entire family. The person struggling needs healing, as well as the spouse who has experienced betrayal. Our approach is practical and applicable to daily life. We offer a library of resources to guide men and women through the healing process.

Our values

Focused on the local church: We believe the Church is the hope of the world, and the battle for sexual purity must be won in and through the Church.
Biblically based: We stand firmly on the timeless, perfect Word of God as the foundation of true healing and change.
Clinically informed: We incorporate the best of applied clinical strategies and brain science, which affirm and illuminate God’s design of humanity.
A holistic approach: For true healing to occur, a person must experience change in their head (thinking), heart (core beliefs), and hands (behaviors).
A compehensive strategy: Sexual brokenness is not only a man’s problem. It’s a people problem. It does not discriminate based on age, gender, or nationality. Pure Desire creates group resources for men, women, and students, whether they are the one struggling or the one impacted by the struggle of another.
Prioritizing community: True change is not possible in isolation. Therefore, we promote safe, committed, and confidential groups that are foundational to the healing process. These groups are led by lay leaders qualified through experience
Demonstrating authenticity: Being real with God and others is the pathway out of secrecy and shame. We strive to be vulnerable with one another and with those we minister to and serve.

Our statement of faith

Pure Desire Ministries International is a biblically-based and clinically-informed ministry committed to true revival in the church through the healing of the present day epidemic of compulsive sexual behavior.

We stand affirming the Christian faith, as attested to in the inspired Old and New Testaments. We believe the Bible to be the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

We affirm that there is one God, The Creator and Sustainer of all things. He exists in three Persons: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, who are one substance and equal in power and glory. We strongly affirm that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior of the world and that He, and He alone, can liberate broken, hurting, and fallen humanity from sin, death, and self-destructive behavior. Thus, for the salvation of sinful and lost humanity, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential, which is received by grace through faith and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and not as a result of good works or trying harder.

Finally, we affirm that we as human beings are created by God in God’s own image, and that we are called and created to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind and to love others as ourselves. This, however, only becomes possible as we acknowledge our need for God and bow our knee to his Lordship in our life. We affirm that God created us male and female, and that our gender expression is His assignment to us and not a fluid decision. We honor God by living out our unique “maleness” and “femaleness.” Further, we believe God has defined marriage as a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman. Any sexual relationship outside of this covenant is contrary to His plan.
